13. The Cold Testament

THE COLD TESTAMENT
The Cold Testament by Professor A.L.I.

Verse from Professor A.L.I.:

VERSE 1:

Hey brother, I can see the lines on your face
Your stomach looks empty, & you’re pining away
No more steps for you to go climbin’ today
Daily grinding, but you’ll be dining today
Forget that cardboard box in the alleyway
Left me lift you up, I got a place for you to stay
To all my young cats trying to make a way
Times is tough, I know it’s hard to stay straight
U think ‘bout the hustle and the paper chase
Your jobless now, but crime doesn’t pay
How not to get caught, ‘cuz there’s money to make
But they won’t even look at your resume
Matter of time, before you catch a case
Everywhere you go, they close the door in your face
No round two, when it’s you versus the state
Let me lift you up, here’s a new workplace
And my man, I can see the gun in your hand
Life is hard and it feels like: ‘damn!’
It might be easier, to pull that: ‘blam!’
Just give A.L.I. one last chance
So stressed out– you might have forgot
There’s cats out here who got love for you akh
Come over to my house, let’s have that talk
Let me lift you up, I don’t want to see that chalk

VERSE 2:

Young sister, it’ll be alright
When he left you girl, I know it burned inside
He’ll regret that decision for the rest of his life
Should’ve stayed and made you his wife
So let you face shine, like the treasure you are
Peep you with telescopes, ‘cuz it measures the stars
Surprised? Not all men are from mars
For some you inspire music, like strings on guitars
Or like verse and bars, your poetry
Hear the beat, now you flow with me
Remember to be regal, ‘cuz you’re a queen
You not the distraction, you’re the daydream
So if he calls you a B, call him a Yazeed
His wandering eyes, has to do with greed
To him u lost value when u birth the seed
You remind A.L.I. of dhikr beads
Meditate on you and earn good deeds
See your needs, when you thirst, I bleed
Balanced scales, two hearts, symmetry,
Your roots are deep, transplant the tree
Forget past pains, torment and grief
This song is about relief, but also belief
When pain is great, anyone can be the doctor
Thru all life’s tests, A.L.I. is your proctor
